It’s Harry Potter Pumpkin Juice!

Wizards and muggles and goblins and students of Hogwarts– are you ready to make some Harry Potter Pumpkin Juice?! This fun beverage is a hit for themed parties, Harry Potter reading nights or movie nights, and is a festive addition to any fall spread. Kids absolutely adore it! Bring out the pumpkin juice and treacle tart and you are ready to enjoy some true Harry Potter fandom!

We actually got to visit The Wizarding World of Harry Potter a few years back as part of a work conference. It is completely styled out down to the details of the books and movies and it just a fun experience. Hagrid’s motorbike adventure ride was hands down our favorite. Recreating the pumpkin juice served there is like taking a walk down memory lane so let’s jump right into it!

The blend served at Harry Potter world consists of: Water, Apple Juice Concentrate, Pumpkin Puree, Apricot Puree, Sugar, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Citric Acid, Acesulfame Potassium, Sodium Benzoate. You can see the exact ingredients in the pumpkin juice served at Universal Studios here.

We won’t be using all these unpronounceables to recreate this pumpkin juice at home. We’re sticking to the basics and putting our own spin on things!

How To Make Pumpkin Juice

Alright witches and wizards: let’s make pumpkin juice! You’ll be cheersing glasses and spilling pumpkin juice on your Hogwart’s cloaks in less than 15 minutes. And you only need 5 magical ingredients.

There are two ways to make this fun pumpkin drink: you can simmer the juice with the sugar for a smoother drink, or you can simply stir them together for convenience’s sake.

Ingredients for pumpkin juice:

  • Apple Cider (or apple juice)
  • Canned pumpkin puree
  • Pumpkin pie spice (or cinnamon and ground ginger)
  • Sugar (brown or white sugar)
  • Maple Syrup

All the house elves in the Hogwarts kitchen simply simmer these ingredients together in a large pot to combine them, then chill the pumpkin juice and enjoy it! It’s the same process for you at home.

You can simply add everything to a pitcher and stir, or to a blender and blend, but the sugar won’t fully emulsify into the juice and will settle and separate on the bottom.

We highly recommend simmering 1 cup of the cider and the sugar together on the stovetop for a quick 3-5 minutes. This helps the sugar fully dissolve into the pumpkin juice and really improves the taste!

And by only heating up 1 cup of the apple cider, then adding that back to the mix, your pumpkin juice will still be cold and ready to consume right away!

What Does Pumpkin Juice Taste Like?

Pumpkin juice tastes like a variation of spiced apple cider- although pumpkin juice is typically served chilled and spiced cider, served warm. You can taste mellow notes of apple, hints of maple, warming spices from pumpkin spice, and of course, pumpkin, in this pumpkin drink.

It’s perfectly balanced and brings the delightful story of Harry, Ron, and Hermione’s adventures to life for your kids, your party, or yourself! We highly recommend making a batch of this while watching the movies for an imaginative experience in the wizarding realm!

How To Serve Pumpkin Juice

At Hogwarts, all the young wizards and witches drink pumpkin juice chilled! You can easily serve this from a pitcher or a punch bowl into glasses filled with ice.

If you have any leftovers, they will keep in the fridge for up to 5 days. You could also warm this up and serve as a variation to a warm spiced cider on a blustery evening!

Description

All aboard the Hogwarts Express to get you fresh pumpkin juice! This recipe for pumpkin juice is simple to make, great for parties, and kids will love it! Plus, use any leftovers as a cocktail mixer!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups / 64 ounces apple cider (or apple juice)
  • 1 can pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • pinch of salt 1/4 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Combine pumpkin puree, maple syrup, brown sugar, salt, and 2 cups of apple cider together in a large pot over medium heat. Bring to a low simmer then remove from heat.
  2. Add the remaining 7 cups of chilled apple cider to the warmed pumpkin mixture and stir to combine.
  3. Pour into a serving pitcher, punchbowl, or jar and serve in glasses over ice!
  4. Optionally top with a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice, a slice of apple, and a cinnamon stick!

Notes

The pumpkin juice will settle, stir or shake contents prior to pouring each glass!

Heating the mixture up is optional, but necessary for the brown sugar to incorporate. For a quicker pumpkin juice, use 1/2 cup maple syrup and you will not need to heat the mixture, however, it will be more prone to separating.
